I live 30 minutes from the center of Charlotte, let's make it 30 miles, a 60 mile circle.
A hydrogen bomb hit's Charlotte , I'm going to die from the blast, instantly,
30 to 100 miles outside of my circle, most will die and the land unlivable.
1 bomb.
At worst, on a first strike, Russia could hit us with at least 200 nuclear bombs, and we could triple that in an hour.
There would be 'no' climate for human beings to live in, in 90% of the world.
Some would be still be alive, but starving and dying of thirst, not having a war with tanks.
