The moral compass only aims in one direction.
The human being, or better yet,
Homo Sapiens, defined:
The species of bipedal primates to which modern humans belong, characterized by a brain capacity averaging 1400 cc (85 cu. in.) and by dependence upon language and the creation and utilization of complex tools.
The human species is unique, to all of nature, based on intelligence and skills.
In our history of approximately 250,000 years, we have advanced the ability to survive like no other animal, in earths history.
Our instincts to survive, have passed all other animals abilities, which was decided where in the food chain they existed. Because of our intelligence, we have no equal, to any living organism. In our history we have established instincts, to grapple with the only living thing on earth, who can destroy human life are other humans.
Our instincts were the first way we began to a way to survive.
Survival of the fittest was the first of these.
Then the more humans in numbers, who could protect our selves against smaller groups.
Then we figured out, a group needed to behave in a way, to get along, to keep our group together. Then came a a split in the road to modern man., good and evil.
Good nurtures human life and evil takes human life.
Morality can't be both.
The Founding Fathers were the first governors of human life who declared, the best way to preserve life was to make all humans equal, with basic laws which protected human life from evil, to flourish.
It so happens, human instinct, Our Declaration of Independence with a Bill of Rights, and Christian faith, follow a parallel way of life.
The Founding Fathers wanted human beings to be responsible for their own well being. To self govern, they gave us a government with more freedom than any government in history, with a set of laws that protected us from tyranny, which is why we had a revolution, to escape tyranny.
The most important responsibility they gave us was, we had to live within the window of truth, morality, and the value of human life.
Within those lines, we could be individually free.
There is only one other individually free, way of life,
Survival of the fittest.
If we can't defend our government, that is where we're headed.
