This article defined our Republic well.
Your cynical interpretation, yes, the United States is a "Christian Nation," was explained later in the article. The U.S. is 'not' just a Christian Nation.
'Citizens who subscribe to other faiths and those who adhere to no faith whatsoever have all the rights of every other citizen.
Religion is a man-made set of doctrines. Christian faith is each man's relationship with God, nothing more. There are no caveats.
Judeo-Christian principles are man's interpretation of Biblical writings.
These principles parallel human instinct. Are they the same? No!
They run close enough together; the Founding Fathers combined these two principles and then proposed a set of laws, which our Constitution follows along
this path.
At this juncture, the Founders gave a structure to govern in this path, to solve differences between the complexities of individual liberty.
The only way to make this work is to live in a virtuous world, with human life as our priority, and have individual freedom in a structured form of government. This is as close as we can get to having both.
Survival of the fittest is the only alternative.
If you think Americans are going to live under elitist control by a small group of people who claim to know what is good for us and decide our direction in life, you are sadly mistaken.
We had a revolution about that very way of governing 250 years ago.
We won!
We will not go back.
