This article defined our Republic, well.
Your cynical interpretation, Yes the US, is a "Christian Nation", was explained later in the article, The US, is 'not' just a Christian Nation.
'Citizens who subscribe to other faiths, as well as those who adhere to no faith whatsoever, have all the rights of every other citizen.
Religion is a man made set of doctrines. Christian faith is each man's personal relationship with God, nothing more. There are no caveats.
Judeo-Christian principles, are man's interpretation of Biblical writings.
These principles parallels human instinct. Are they the same? No!
They run close enough together, the Founding Fathers put these 2 principles together, and then proposed a set of laws, where our Constitution follows along, with-in this path.
What the Founders did, at this juncture, was give a structure to govern, in this path, to have a way to solve differences, between the complexities of individual liberty.
The only way to make this work, we have to live in a virtuous world, with human life as our priority, in order to have individual freedom in a structured form of government. This is as close as we can get, to have both. Survival of the fittest is the only alternative.
If you think Americans are going to live under an elitist control by a small group of people, who claim to know what is good for us, and decide our direction in life, you are sadly mistaken.
We had a revolution about that very way of governing, 250 years ago.
We won!
We will not go back.
